As part of Chic Fashion Week, the current San Francisco answer to the larger fashion weeks held in cities like New York, Paris and Milan, fashion-minded and philanthropic civil rights attorney Waukeen McCoy opened his home for an intimate and eclectic fashion presentation. Joining forces with the Bay Area’s acclaimed fashion show producer Charleston Pierce, the models were able to use two stories of the Victorian mansion in the Lower Haight to showcase the work of different Bay Area designers. The event was held to raise money for “Until There’s a Cure”, a nonprofit organization that raises funds and awareness about HIV and AIDS through the sale of “The Bracelet.” These bracelets, many made by indigenous peoples in countries most affected by HIV, were available for sale at the event.

Each designer added a distinctly different flavor to the party’s punch: from Monique Zhang’s ensembles of modern Chinoiserie, Picky Studio's brightly colored t-shirt dresses, Cocoa Jeans modeled with bikini tops to the slinky negligee by A La Folie Lingerie. The setting for the show thus required an accommodatingly unconventional approach. Pierce’s vision for the presentation had the men and women modeling the clothing in pairs and groups, walking down staircases, assembling into formations, moving through the crowd and interacting with each other for photographers. The models had a flair for drama but were clearly enjoying themselves. The extraordinary chemistry between some was scorching!
